Hello Andre, our Cocktails #7 book was published in 2007 and we are now on Cocktails #18, published in December 2024. You sure do have a classic on your hands there 🙌 Since Cocktails #14, published in 2020 our books have displayed ml and oz.

Andre Zimmermann

Wow, I was not aware of this. One sure learns the hard way.
The book, hard cover is in good condition, absolutely useable but shows that it is not fresh off the press. Will have to live with it. Thanks a lot for the swift reply. Appreciate it.

Please click "Read about cocktail measures and measuring" under each of our cocktail recipes for an explanation of conversion between shots, oz and ml. No mess here!

Dear Simon,
Today, my copy of the "cocktails #7" arrived. It sure is a bible! Some comments: the writing is quite small so reading in subdued light condition is impossible. I am saddened that you use "shots" for the measurements. I do understand that you are living in the USA so oz etc can not be avoided. I like to call these non-metric measurements Yesteryear Measurements. Would be nice to have the US adapt to the rest of the world and not, as usual, expect the contrary. Well, you and I cant change that.
With a marker I added 'shot' to 25ml on your measuring cup. Best regards from Tokyo, Andre

Hi Andre, there are a lot of cocktails and so many ingredients it's true! We try to cater for all and have a Cocktails Made Easy section of the website where we have some of the more simple recipes with less ingredients. You can also use Cocktail Builder to add the ingredients you have and we'll make suggestions on what you can make. Happy cocktail making!

Andre Zimmermann

I am on a steep learning curve here, thanks so much for all the support and suggestions. Interesting times lie ahead :-)

Indeed, very clear and easy to understand. Thanks a lot for your great replies and support.
Just one note: most cocktails are very exotic needing all kinds of ingredients. The basics I have but not much more
which means either searching for some of the required ingredients or, looking for more simpler recipes. This is just a comment.

No The book has both mL and oz. FYI shots is identical to oz. Enjoy!

Andre Zimmermann

When I checked on AI, it stated 1 shot aprox. 1.5oz (in the US). Different again in Canada, UK, SA..... what a mess.
Will work on my first real cocktail. Nice experiment! Thanks again

Directly below the ingredients are buttons for selecting unit of measure.

Andre Zimmermann

That is great news to me. Very helpful indeed. Thanks a lot.
I also ordered the recipe book so I hope it is not all in Shots. That would be terrible.
Thanks a lot for your wink.

Andre Zimmermann

The Jigger I ordered had just arrived. It states liquid measurements in ml and oz. When I look up a recipe all measurements are given in shots and fractions thereof.
Now, how helpful is your Jigger?? Or, how should I use it??

Simon Difford

Please click " measures and measuring" below the ingredients in every cocktail on Difford's Guide. This will explain all, including the amount of liquid in a shot.

Andre Zimmermann

thanks a lot. This hint was very helpful and informative. Great explanations indeed. Would be nice if the whole world would at long last adhere to the metric system. Everything else is archaic.
