An enjoyable drink that gives off end-of-year holiday vibes. At least with the gin I used (The Botanist), however, the gin was a bit overpowering, so I added 10ml of Frangelico, which I felt kept with the spirit of the drink but made it a bit less “gin-tense.”

10-15ml crème de banane (not some old bottom shelf banana liqueur, but something proper like Giffard) is an excellent addition.

Subbing the lime for ~30ml lemon also fits the flavor profile rather well

The lemon in lieu of lime definitely changed things up, and, in my opinion, made it even more tasty. The lemon really brings out the banana flavour.

Delicious. Although we thought we secured an overripe enough banana, apparently it was not up to the task so we followed others’ guidance and added 20 ml of banana liqueur total (we had two drinks). Additionally, feeling it might need just a bit something extra, we added to each drink 3 drops of sea salt solution (4 water : 1 sea salt; (first tried 2 then went for one more). Additionally, we didn’t have yellow chartreuse so used Genepy le Chamois.

Great drink (with Cynar it’s hard to do wrong). If you have Gin-sceptic friends who “ride or die” whiskey, something we attempted was akin to doing a flavor overload by using Sipsmith Lemon Drizzle and Antica Formula vermouth. Logically, it makes no sense to have 3 flavour-heavy spirits engaging in a Battle Royale, but we channeled our inner Ghostbusters, “reversed the stream,” and were pleasantly surprised by the result.

To see whether it would work from a flavour comparability perspective, we experimented by using Empress Elderflower Rose Gin and were happy with the outcome.

When we (there were two of us) compared against the original recipe, the original is truer to the taste profile of a Last Word. There’s a subtle, but notable, difference with the gin we used (a bit more layered and interesting, flavour-wise). When the votes were tallied, the Empress variation came out victorious.

A delicious drink. Recently did a taste test with 3 different vermouths and the “judges” ranked as follows in terms of preference: 3) Cocchi Storico Vermouth di Torino; 2) Antica Formula; and 1) Punt e Mes. For what it’s worth, in all three samples we used Woodford Reserve, Campari, and Drillaud’s crème de banane.

After we tried the Written Word, with Cointreau in place of Luxardo, we applied that switch to the Closing Argument with great success. You still get the lime taste without the “sting” lime juice can have sometimes.

An all time favorite.. Although I prefer Aperol or a 50 50 mix of Aperol and Campari for a more approachable drink.

After reading this, made one drink with Campari and another with Aperol for a taste test, and the latter won out. Thanks for the suggestion.
