In the last century, the Alberti family created a green version of their classic Liquore Strega with a drier profile and a higher alcohol content. In late spring 2025, Strega Alberi reintroduced this liqueur, preserving the original recipe and packaging.

Strega Verde and Liquore Strega share the same origins and are both flavoured with botanical infusions and distillations, and both liqueurs are matured in wooden casks prior to bottling. However, the two liqueurs have their own distinctive personalities.

Review and Tasting

Appearance:

Clear, pale grass green.

Aroma:

Aromatic and herbal with pine, mint, rosemary, thyme, clove, star anise, nutmeg and white pepper.

Taste:

Intense alcohol and herbal flavours explode to envelope the palate with herbaceous, vegetal spice. Aniseed, mint and white peppery spice notes are quite distinct.

Aftertaste:

Mint is more amplified in the long, herbal finish with lingering spiritous spice.

Overall:

Strega Verde is not a replica but a viable alternative to Green Chartreuse in cocktails such as a Last Word. It shares the same intensity of flavour and alcohol strength, but appears to have less sugar and a flavour profile that, while different, is of the same style.
