Brasserie du March, which brews this beer was established in 1456, a full 359 years before the Battle of Waterloo brought fighting close to the brewery with the town’s church of Saint-Etienne used as a field hospital. Hence they claim that allied soldiers fighting Napoleon drank this powerful beer.

Avaliação e degustação

Experimentado em 23/02/2012

Aparência

Dark, almost opaque mahogany brown with sediment. Huge bubbly head fades fairly quickly to thin layer of foam with little lacing.

Aroma

Lightly roasted malts, caramel nose with raisins, prunes and a whiff of aniseed and liquorice.

Sabor

Malty, caramel palate with nuts, yeast and a touch of spice. Lighter than many beers with such heady alcohol strengths.

Aftertaste

Caramel and brown sugar finish with light peppery spice.
