1659 Smoked Ruby Beer is brewed using barley malt smoked over cherry wood, along with some Black Malt, Cara, Münich and Pale Ale malt hopped with English Sovereign. The ‘1659’ name references the Great Fire of Southwold which destroyed most the brewery’s home town.
Sampled on 13/12/2014
(sample best before 31/Oct/15) Clear, deep mahogany with thin off-white head and light lacing.
Wood smoke and smoky bacon.
Smoky bacon with raisins, dates and mocha coffee. Slight sweetness balanced the smokiness.
Lightly smoky, chocolatly and coffee toasty malt.
