See more American corn Whiskey
Corn whisky was the forerunner to bourbon, and this American straight-corn whiskey is still the last in production at a major distillery. As such, it must have at least 80% corn grain in the mashbill, which is 80% corn, 8% rye and 12% malted barley.
As a Straight Corn Whiskey, it must and must be aged in uncharred, new or used white oak barrels, and have no flavouring, colouring or blending additives.
Mellow Corn is not only a 'straight' corn whisky but it has the extra designation of being bottled-in-bond, hence must be aged a minimum of four years.
Sampled on 03/03/2016
Clear, mid-golden amber.
Chargrilled sweetcorn, linseed oil rubbed cricket bat, chamois leather, blanched almond, butter and cinnamon.
Light to medium bodied. Sweet chargrilled sweetcorn, new leather and toasty oak with enlivening black pepper and cinnamon spice.
Dry, toasty finish with lingering spicy chargrilled sweetcorn.
As the name suggests this whiskey not only has a very high percentage of corn in its mash bill, it also has a distinctly buttery chargrilled corn flavour with an enlivening black pepper and cinnamon spice.
