Blue Moon is a Belgian-style witbier with a cloudy appearance because it is unfiltered so expect dead yeast particles to at the bottom of the bottle. Blue Moon is brewed using white wheat, oats and malted barley with hops, coriander and orange peel.

According to that great oracle that is Wikipedia, “A blue moon is a full moon that is not timed to the regular monthly pattern. Most years have twelve full moons which occur approximately monthly, but in addition to those twelve full lunar cycles each calendar year contains an excess of roughly eleven days. The extra days accumulate, so that every two or three years (on average about every 2.7154 years) there is an extra full moon. The extra moon is called a blue moon.”

The brands owners, Molson Coors, suggest serving with an orange slice. It is also usual to carefully pour all but half an inch or so of beer from the bottle, then swirl it around to agitate the yeast and pour it into the glass, so creating a thick head on the beer.

Instead of ponsing about with an orange I suggest you try a ‘Black & Blue’, a half ‘n’ half mix of Guinness and Blue Moon with the Blue Moon poured first. If you pour carefully, the Guinness will layer over the Blue Moon.

Slightly sweet and dilute – as if diluted with watery orange cordial.

Sabor:

Hint of rosemary-like spice and obvious coriander. Fairly heavy carbonation gives a pleasant mouthfeel.
