Mazzura is made by the Cappelletti family using botanicals sourced from Dolomite hills and valleys in Italy's Triveneto region, the birthplace of the spritz.

Mazzura's natural colour comes from the blend of flowers and fruits.

Aperitivo Mazzura is wine-based, so once opened should be kept refrigerated and used within six to eight weeks.

The Cappelletti family established their Antica Erboristeria Cappelletti distillery in 1906. For most of their first century, they were located in the historic Piazza Fiera in the centre of Trento. Today, they are located 20 km south of Trento in Aldeno, surrounded by vineyards and apple orchards. As the name suggests, Antica Erboristeria Cappelletti was and continues to focus on products made using traditional herbs, roots and flowers.

Now run by the fourth generation of the family, Luigi and Maddalena, Cappelletti is regarded for its amari and aperitivi, including the classic red bitter Aperitivo Cappelletti.

Review and Tasting

Sampled before 1st May 2011

Appearance:

Clear, maroon (brownish crimson) red.

Aroma:

Herbal orange sherbet with bay leaf, mild spice and delicate floral scents.

Taste:

Bitter quinine and zesty citrus are rounded by lightly honeyed sweetness.

Aftertaste:

Long lingering bitter herbal finish.

Overall:

More herbal and complex compared to most 'red-orange aperitivo' liqueurs, and Mazzura is arguably best considered a maroon-hued aperitivo amaro.
