Naming a beer after a football club has to be a sure way to generate sales and ‘Standard’ is named after Royal Standard de Liège, commonly referred to as Standard Liège, a Belgian football club from the city of Liège. Standard players are nicknamed the "Rouches" due to their red jerseys.

The beer which is naturally bottled in the club’s colours is a Belgium blonde ale with secondary fermentation in the bottle.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 30/01/2012

Appearance:

Clear, golden with heavy sediment coating the base of the glass. Thick head which subsides to lasting creamy layer depositing thick lacing.

Aroma:

Yeasty malty, bready dough nose with faint herbal pear skin fruity aromas.

Taste:

Creamy mouth feel, slightly sweet caramel palate. Fresh pear and grape fruity notes sit well with doughy maltyness and mild hop coriander spice.

Aftertaste:

Crisp apple skin and pear finish with subtle herbal spicyness.
