Review

Stylish contemporary cocktail lounge where the drinks lead with tea.

From the exposed floorboards to the sinuous banquettes and stylish glassware, Double 9 is a classic internationally styled cocktail lounge. Neat touches from the notebooks for guests to leave their impressions to the sign announcing ‘No WiFi’ add character to what could otherwise feel a little formulaic.

The drinks here major on tea. Portugal was one of the first European nations to discover and trade in tea, while it was a Portuguese princess, Catherine of Braganza, who introduced the drink to Britain, so tea is far from the leap it might seem.

By using the full range of teas, from fruit to smoky Lapsang Souchong, in treatments from syrups and tinctures to top-ups, the team create an impressive variety of mixes, although there are classics, contemporary classics and tea-free home creations on the menu too.
