Review

Split over two floors, the ground floor is reminiscent of a saloon bar, with a low-lit dark wood interior and a choice between a seat at the long bar or a clandestine booth; and upstairs cosy armchairs and velvet couches are spread over a wooden floor.

An old-time feel populates the menu, from the Harry Johnson-style etchings of drinks on the regular 65-strong cocktail menu (mostly classics-based, divided by spirit category and in terms of stirred/shaken/bubbles/egg) to the 'Liquor & Victuals' heading on the 10-strong cocktail daily specials. Drinks were well-made and served seriously - each drink balanced.

Complementing the cocktail list is a choice of four punches, available from 'cup' to 'flowing bowl' sizes, an American/Scandinavian list of draft beers and a North American list of bottled craft brews. Two reds, two whites and two bubbles complete the list. An open kitchen serves pimped-up comfort food - escargot fries, porchetta sandwiches and deviled eggs sums up the approach to food.
