With a relatively anonymous shop front - just an A-board announcing its existence on this leafy residential street - this restaurant is well known for its artisanal food, with diners prepared to wait for up to two hours for a table to eat fare from local 'farmsteads', with a European bent such as knackwurst, quark and cervalat.
Happily, they can wait in the bar, though it's often standing room only. No matter, as that places you in the best position to watch the bartenders at work. Dressed up like a barber quartet - with plenty of facial hair - drinks served from antique glassware and cut glass punchbowls, adding to the turn of the century vibe. Requisite bare brick, a dark wooden bar and vintage till complete the look, while the candle and Edison bulb-lit interior is incredibly atmospheric.
A menu of just 12 cocktails is focused on classics, with everything jiggered and stirred properly, and a daily changing punch. Whether you?re waiting for a table or not, you can still eat - a collection of cured meats is a good foil for a strong cocktail.
