Spread across the front rooms of a Georgian Townhouse, Seymour's Lounge is a quiet haven and homely space a stone's throw from the bustle of Oxford Street and the Edgware Road.

As the name suggests the decor is reminiscent of walking into a cosy parlour from a bygone age with comfy sofas, leather upholstered chairs, Persian rugs and an open fireplace. As befits any homely parlour, photographs and paintings dot the walls and indeed the ceiling, with a book case, grandmother clock and collection of plaster mouldings.

Cocktails are of the quality you'd expect of any bar under the auspices of Tony Conigliaro with a list of a dozen house drinks encompassing most styles and tastes. For example, "Le Sphinx" is floral, aromatic, honeyed and sparkles with champagne. The "Last Laugh" is more boozy and served short on-the-rocks with cognac, cider apple brandy, apple caramel and apple wood bitter. The rye whiskey based "Two Penny Trash" looks like a baby Guinness with a thick tan head and is made with powdered malts and treacle. However, the cocktail menu is crowned by the cleansing martini-esque "Köln II" with gin, dry vermouth and "a hint of Koln 2 Aromatics."

This is also a place for "nibbles" with a selection of small bites ranging from crisps and salted pistachios to soup of the day and "Whilelmina's House Salad to "Seymour's Famous Potted Pleasures" (potted shrimp and such like) and "House Supper Bowls (including "Beef Bourguignon with Asian salad."

Be sure to nab the sofa facing the fireplace. Mellow lounge music and jazz plays in the background as the fire crackles in the grate with a warming murmur of voices from the bar. Seymour's is a very civilised place to stop for resbite.
