Review

Épernay in Northeast France is one of the two towns of Champagne, so it is perhaps not surprising to find that this eponymously named bar specialises in champagne and sparkling wines. However, those expecting a crusty old wine bar are in for a shock as Epernay is both contemporary and one of the best cocktail bars in Manchester.

This gem of a champagne and cocktail bar as a lofty position and should not be confused with the unrelated bar below. Having ascended the wide staircase you'll be rewarded by a well-stocked bar offering 16 champagnes by the glass - vintages, prestige cuvées and magnums, as well as prosecco and English sparkling wines. There are a further 22 table wines by the glass. There's also an extensive list of signature cocktails inspired by the decades: 70s, 80s, 90,s and 00s, as well as 11 of the best-known classics.

A larger second room has more of a conservatory feel, with a glass wall and roof enclosing a room illuminated with twinkling fairy lights. Smokers are well provided for with a small wooden decked terrace.
