Review

Far back in Pudong, near the Shanghai Expo centre and on the fringes of Century Park, this classy microbrewery is a centrepiece of the Kerry Hotel, and flagship of the Kerry Parkside mall which opened late in 2011.

A two-storey glazed brewing tower dominates the slick contemporary space, with its woven brick rear wall, and a waft of yeasty mash hits you as you enter. A retro motorcycle and sidecar conveniently close to the patio, not to mention a pool table and big screens, add a pub feel to what could otherwise feel a little too slick for a microbrewery.

Brewmeister Leon Mickelson and his team produce six craft brews in the two-storey glazed brewing tower which dominates the contemporary space. The 70RMB tasting paddle enables you to try their entire range.

While their low-carb "Skinny Green" won awards at the Asia Beer Awards, their toothsome Vanilla Stout is well worth a try, as is an IPA with a big nose of tropical fruits. There is a simple, relatively pricy menu of gastro-pub fare - salads, burgers, steaks and mezze - to sop up the beers and please the business lunch crowd.
