As you walk in, you're greeted by the bar with its stainless-steel fish scales under the counter and a fluorescent seascape behind. If you can score a seat here rather than at one of the booths or tables beyond, you'll be in the centre of the action

To quote the menu, "Salmon Guru is a place designed for and dedicated to cocktails, and as such, there is a wide range of them – from classics, like May Tai, the Margarita, and the Piña Colada, to enjoyable, innovative creations, like Steam Drunk, Chipotle Chillón and Uno de los Nuestros." Cocktails such as the "Tequila Al Pastor", made with "tequila infused with the spices of the famous Al Pastor taco," lime juice and Tatemada pineapple juice, are an adventure. It tasted like a mildly spiced alcoholic curry and was one of the better cocktails we sampled. However, the dumplings were better.

Judging by our experience, not all the cocktails at Salmon Guru will hit the spot, but it's enjoyable to try them and experience the bar's version of escapism.
