Review

This bijou bar just off Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn Heights has recently opened in a former shop. Everything here shouts 'vintage', from the zinc-topped bar to the small marble-topped tables in little booths and the gas lamp-style lights, while aproned staff wear braces (suspenders to our American readers). The modern day saloon atmosphere is relaxed and upbeat, however, and the only real sound is happy chatter and the ring-ring of the cash register.

Drinks-wise the choice is between eight drinks, many original twists on classics, at $10, and another four at $11, often named after Brooklyn and its surroundings, eg. The Kings County Sour; Brooklyn Ferry - with the emphasis on simple combinations of flavour.

There's a short list of locally brewed beers on draught, and a comfort food-driven menu, offering burgers, sandwiches and oysters, as well as more esoteric fare such as bone marrow.

Note that this is a cash-only bar.
