Review

Copenhagen's only Tiki bar is handily situated just round the corner from what's apparently the city's red light district, an area quickly becoming a fashionable environ. While we did not explore the area, certainly this road and others we drove along to find Brass Monkey bore no sign of the promised redness.

The bar opened in 2009 and is owned by two bartenders, Basper Georg Jensen and Thomas Raae who met in 2000 while studying music. The large room has all the accoutrements one would expect to find in a Tiki bar: hand-carved Tikis, puffer fish, a palm-thatched-topped bar and further Polynesian-inspired visual stimulation.
Cocktails range from a well-made Tommy's Margarita to the full gambit of Tiki classics with volcano bowls and other sharing drinks considered an essential part of the genuine Tiki experience.

Brass Monkey attracts a younger crowd than many of the other bars recommended here - more student than banker.
