Duvel, ‘devil’ in Flemish, is brewed using a 90 day process: malted barley with Saaz hops from the Czech Republic and Styrian Golding hops from Slovenia. Yeast cultured from the original Scottish strain selected by Victor Moortgat in 1918. Prolonged lagering and seconday fermentation in the bottle.
Sampled on 13/08/2012
(sample bottle best before Mar-20) Hazy, light sandy golden with huge white head leaving heavy lacing.
Yeasty, spicy and bready with cracked black pepper alcohol, apple skin and pear.
Full-bodied. Herbal, spicy, fruity, yeasty and grainy – all served with a bittersweetness and a balanced whack of alcohol.
Barley, yeast and spice with lingering sweet black pepper tingle.
One of the world's great and noble beers. Huge in every respect, including a whopping 8.5% alc./vol., yet balanced and subtle.
