Early in the 20th century when holidaymakers started visiting the Italian island of Capri, Vincenza Canale started selling her own recipe limoncello to the tourists. This recipe, which uses hand-picked Sorrento, 'I.G.P' lemons, has been passed down through generations of the Canale family.
In 2022, a new bottle and label design was introduced and the alcohol strength was reduced from 32% alc./vol. to 30%.
