Portugal
A Portuguese brandy-based, honey-flavoured liqueur from the Algarve region flavoured with herbs from the local hills. The brandy used is distilled from medronho (or arbutus fruit) and as well as honey, lemon oils are added before the product is matured in old oak port pipes for 6-13 months.
Created in 1956 by Oliveiros Cristinalda, this remains a family-owned business with Rodrigo Cristina, one of the Cristinalda company heirs, now managing director.
