This first release of only 3,000 bottles were made available worldwide in October 2009. This 18 year-old Dalmore was matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks and then finished in Matusalem sherry seasoned butts.
The twelve pointer stag or ‘Royal Stag’ symbol proudly graces every bottle of Dalmore with the more prestigious expressions in the range, including this one, featuring a metal stag’s head rather than just a printed image.
This 18 year old is presented in a deep blue carton, a colour chosen because it’s the official colour of King Alexander III whose life was saved from a charging stag by the Clan Mackenzie back in 1263.
Taste: This amber coloured malt has a nose of malty cacao rich chocolate, truffles, coffee beans, vanilla with appley notes and wafts of smouldering oak chips. A splash of water brings out linseed oil/putty notes. The palate has bone dry heather, woody rooty, peaty notes, but these are not at all smoky. Subtle cognac-like rancio notes and a lightly salty, bitter seaweed finish. 4/5
