First released exclusively for global travel retail in October 2007, Highland Park 21 year old was reduced to 40% alc./vol. before being withdrawn in 2010 due to dwindling stocks. Thankfully, this 21 year old was re-released at its original 47.5% strength in March 2012.
Highland Park 21-Year-Old is aged approximately 80% in refill and 20% first fill, nearly all-American oak ex-Sherry butts.
Sampled on 16/03/2012
Clear, golden amber with a slight green tinge and burnished copper highlights.
Sooty seaweed and freshly sawn white wood with a touch of linseed oil and appealing lightly smoked sappy wood, chocolate profiterole and faint orange oils.
You’ll need to add a splash of water to open but go easy or you’ll drown this beauty. Generous, smoky, buttery oak with stewed fruit and vegetal notes, invigorated by ginger biscuit, a spray of sweet orange oils and rich dark chocolate.
Delicately smoked cedar and cigar box with hints of hazelnut. Not as easy and sweet as HP18 but with patient watering HP21 is equally rewarding.
