A wine-based liqueur flavoured with green walnuts made at Distilleries et Domaines de Provence in the South of France where the drink is traditionally taken as an aperitif, or as an accompaniment to blue cheese.
The walnuts are harvested on or before St. Jean's day (John the Baptist) on 24th June to ensure they are still green and unripe, before the shells start to harden.
Sampled on 15/11/2020
Clear, deep terracotta red.
Vinous dried fruit, walnut bread, and cinnamon.
Walnut and oak wine tannins with cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Good balance of sweetness, dry tannins and acidity.
Dry port-like finish with lingering nut and cinnamon.
Well-balanced and remarkably port-like with tawny dryness and tannins. Great chilled or at room temperature with cheese.
