Bar stool legend has it that inquisitive ferrets were attracted by the smell of beer after Rose Gribble's idyllic country cottage became a public house, hence the name. Why Hall & Woodhouse have chosen to risk putting this sessionable ale in clear glass bottles is a mystery though.

Originally brewed at the Gribble Inn (Gribble Lane, Oving, Chichester, West Sussex, PO20 2BP), a thatched cottage originally inhabited by a Miss Rose Gribble, which was turned into an inn in 1980 when a local farmer was granted a licence. Demand for the beer exceeded what the pub's micro brewery could make and now Ferret is brewed at Hall & Woodhouse, and available as a seasonal cask ale and as a pasteurised bottled ale sold in UK supermarkets.
