Review and Tasting

Sampled on 31/07/2015

Appearance:

Very faint haze, mid-deep golden amber.

Aroma:

Inside of old oak wardrobe, spice and apple pie with raison, faint sherry, blackened ginger cake, clove and anise. Apple pie notes become more green apple skin with time. Water amplifies this change also exposing moist fruit cake.

Taste:

Full-bodied and dry. Chewy oak, leather, sea salt and delicate clove spice lightened with green apple skin, lemon zestiness and sweet honey. Still dry, oaky and earthy with water but the dilution brings the balance into kilter with sherry and green apple fruit.

Aftertaste:

Dry, varnished wood, leather and spice. Lingering peppery Christmas spice and sea salt.

Overall:

One of those malts that really benefits from a dash of water. Full-bodied, dry earthy yet fruity, honeyed and sherried.
