Named the magistrate in Sir Walter Scott’s novel ‘Rob Roy’ who tackled a sword-wielding Highlander with a red hot poker at the inn at Clachan of Aberfoyle. Colloquially known as BNJ, indeed previous bottle designs prominently featured the initials.
Bailie Nicol Jarvie is blended by The Glenmorangie Company and the bottle’s back label claims "The Bailie Nicol Jarvie we believe, boasts the highest malt content of any blended Scotch whisky". The whiskies are all at least 8 years old and are said to comprise 60% single malts from the Highlands, Islands and Speyside, blended with 40% grain whisky from Girvan.

Bailie Nicol Jarvie was first blended sometime before 1880 by Nicol Anderson & Co. This Glaswegian blending house was acquired by Macdonald & Muir of Leith in 1921. Renamed Glenmorangie plc in 1996 the company re-launched Baillie Nicole Jarvie in 1994, retaining its simple Victorian styled label.
