This 1991 vintage wheated bourbon is one of the last to come from the old Stitzel-Weller distillery, famed for Old Weller and Pappy Van Winkle. McKlain and Klyne were lucky enough to acquire some of the stocks and they have chosen to release it as a 17-year-old.
The Jefferson's brand name pays homage to the third President of the United States: Thomas Jefferson, instrumental in America's Independence in 1783 and the man credited with writing the Declaration of Independence. It seems appropriate that it was Jefferson himself who was at the heart of the Whiskey Rebellion in 1791, during which he repealed the tax on whiskey and turned Americans from rye to bourbon.

(Batch #1) Clear, mahogany amber with bright golden flecks.
Shouts tropical fruits with raspberry jam spread over toasted grain, with toffee nougat, salted butter and old tea chest oak.
Starts sweet and quickly turns dry. A splash of water prises open this superb bourbon to reveal breakfast tea tannins, smoky dry oak, warm cinnamon going into paprika spice, dry brazil nut, blackcurrant jam, dried apple and smooth buttery caramel.
Long, nutty, oaky, smoked paprika spiced finish.
