Launched in 1925, Alhambra Negra borders on being a dunkel-style beer but is best described as being a 'black lager'.

Review and Tasting

Appearance:

Clear (almost opaque), dark reddy-black (think cola) with medium head which quickly dissipates with very little lacing.

Aroma:

Caramel and burnt toast/heavily roasted malt with a hint of lemon grass. Surprisingly subdued given the colour.

Taste:

Ignore the colour, this is flavoursome lager with burnt toasty malt and an ever so subtle hint of anise.

Aftertaste:

Wafts of smoke drift over the heavily charred toast and liquorice finish.
