A limited release of 5,700 bottles, bottled in September 2013, to celebrate ten years since the release of The Peat Monster. A blend of Islay single malts with a rich, smoky Brora Highland malt aged primarily in a mix of first-fill and refill American oak, with some 2% new French oak for finishing.
Back in 2003 Compass box created a bespoke blend of very peaty single malts for the owners of the Park Avenue Liquor Shop in New York. They named it Monster and used a 19th century illustration of a bizarre creature for the label graphics. Its success led to The Peat Monster, which has gone on to become Compass Box's best-selling whisky.
The producers say, "For this special bottling, we have produced a special recipe of The Peat Monster, maintaining the smoky, heavy-peated intensity of the classic bottling and adding a bit more malty richness through the use of some very special, quite odd casks of peaty Highland single malt."
Bottled at without chill filtration of added caramel colour.

Clear, pale straw golden with gleaming luminosity.
Peaty smoke, Elastoplast, soot and creosote with salty sea air and sweet freshly sliced apple fruit.
You'll need water to tame this monster, but water also amplifies wonderful creamy vanilla pastry (cream slice) which balances the salty, spicy smoky peat.
Sweet tar, salty butter and lingering bonfire smokiness.
