Ballantines Brasil officially launched in March 2014 in the midst of a trend towards flavoured whiskies and ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. It is made by steeping dried Brazilian lime peel in Scotch whisky casks with added vanilla essence and sugar.

A special blend of Scotch whisky (not the usual Ballantines Finest) at 62.5% alc/.vol. is put into second fill American ex-bourbon casks with dried Brazilian lime peel wrapped in muslin bags for a couple of weeks (1/2 kilo of lime peel per cask). This is then blended with more of the special whisky blend with the lime flavoured scotch forming a relatively small percentage of the blend. The blend is reduced to bottling strength with vanilla extract and around 20 grams of sugar per litre.

Ballantines Brasil is aimed at younger drinkers and is designed to be served mixed. It launched in Czech Republic at the tail end of 2013 and rolled out in March 2014 to markets such as Spain, Poland, France and Germany.
