When launched in April 2011, 'And remember', said the advertising. 'C'est Cidre, Not Cider.' Owners AB InBev describe Stella Artois Cidre as 'a premium crafted Belgian Cider made with hand-picked apples', stipulating that it contains a 'minimum of 70 per cent hand-picked apples'.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 29/09/2011

Appearance:

Clear, honey gold, small off-white head.

Aroma:

Pungent but clean champagne-like biscuity cider apple nose.

Taste:

Cider purists will understandably say that Stella Artois Cidre is not a 'cider' because it's not 100 per cent apple juice, and indeed the medium dry palate is something of a cross between a real cider, a lager and a sparkling wine. Something of a snakebite then? Restrained apple and rhubarb flavours with some crisp acidity.

Aftertaste:

Refreshingly, pleasant but short, sour, slightly acidic finish with fading stewed apple and lemon zest.
