Released May 2017, this Single Distillery bottling by Martell ups the game in the V.S. cognac category with a contemporary look. The bottle design was inspired by Martell Cordon Bleu and the traditional shape of the cognac ‘montre’ sampling bottle.
Martell’s swift emblem sits proudly embossed over the elegant gold edged textured white label with the arms of the House and the signature of its founder, Jean Martell.
Sampled on 01/05/2017
Clear, deep golden amber with coppery glints.
Caramel, crème brûlée, candied lemon, vanilla, dried apricot, stewed plum, roasted brazil nut, with violet and Jasmin blossom, nutmeg and cinnamon spice.
Lightly sweet caramel and vanilla fudge is quickly dried by zesty lemon, cinnamon and nutmeg spiced oak, with chocolate cake, nutty fruit cake and dried apricot.
Biscuit green grape, brazil nut, dried fruit, caramel and zesty lemon with nutmeg and cinnamon spice. Surprisingly dry finish following the sweet entry to the palate.
The elegant, clean and restrained bottle and label stand apart from the gold bling we have become so accustomed to from Cognac. The cognac inside the bottle is more complex when compared to other ‘big house’ 3-star V.S. cognacs with its caramel vanilla richness amplifying green grapey and dried apricot fruitiness dried by citrus, nutmeg and cinnamon spiced oak.
