In 1689, after being proclaimed King of England, Ireland and Scotland, the Dutch King William III (AKA William of Orange) made a gin. This replica gin is based on the Kin's original 1689 recipe, uncovered in coded form in the British Library's rare book section.
The rediscovered recipe lists the original gins ingredients but with quantities stated in a coded form. Unable to break this code, the quantities used to make this gin were decided on by the experience of the distillers at Herman Jansen in Schiedam, Netherlands, a distillery dating back to 1777 and where this replica gin is made.

Crystal clear.
Juniper forward, fairly classic nose with attractive floral and citrusy aromas. Faint aniseed.
Distinctive floral (violet) lightly bready with good piney juniper and nutty notes. Light floral and aniseed.
Palate continue through the very well-balanced finish with light spice and star anise.
1689's royal blue bottle perhaps masks the glorious gin inside which is classic London Dry in style but with attractive bready, nutty, floral and citrus notes and a touch of star anise.
