Based on Rooster Rojo añejo tequila which has been aged for at least 12 months in ex-bourbon barrels, infused with smoked red Spanish pineapples.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 03/10/2021

Appearance:

Clear, deep golden amber.

Aroma:

Dehydrated pineapple, wisps of wood smoke, and roast agave with paprika and black pepper spice.

Taste:

Opens with dried sweet pineapple and overripe banana before smoky oak and agave notes prevail.

Aftertaste:

Dry smoky finish with very faint pineapple.

Overall:

The smoked element in this tequila is perhaps more assertive than the pineapple. A distinctive debossed label on a similarly debossed tall slender bottle has shelf appeal, but be warned, the synthetic stopper appears oversized for the bottle's neck so is very difficult to prize out. Presumably, this is a full 40% for the North American market rather than the lower comercial strength of 38% alc./vol. in Europe.
