Nova is a single malt Australian whisky, double distilled from fermented Australian malted barley then aged in red wine barrels previously used to mature shiraz, cabernets and pinot noir.

Review and Tasting

Appearance:

Clear, golden amber.

Aroma:

Matchbox striking strip, strawberry and raspberry fruit, port wine and brasil nuts.

Taste:

Spicy with cinnamon and chewy dry oak tannins balancing honeyed berry fruit. Pleasant walnut notes with a splash of water.

Aftertaste:

Dry and nutty with toffee mild cinnamon spice.

Overall:

"Matured in red wine barrels" on the label sets you up for a fruity wine and indeed Nova bosts red berry notes, but it is its dry walnut and brazil nut notes, particularly with water, that set this whisky apart.
