North of Scotland does not describe whisky from a general region but was the name of a grain whisky distillery that used to lie close to the Highland town of Alloa, to the north of Edinburgh. Clear, dark golden amber.
Rolling tobacco, plastic box, old varnish with aromatic cinnamon dusted dried fruit and candied lemon peel. A whiff of eucalyptus - somewhat reminiscent of a dry madeira.
Hydrated to approx. 40% yields a sweet, toffee apple with rich vanilla and caramel balanced by dry, bitter woody tannins.
Wafts of smoke and spice emerge in the still toffee influenced mocha coffee, woody finish.
