This Jamaican rum is made from a blend of casks from Jamaica’s Hampden and Monymusk Distilleries. Blended from rums then aged between 4 and 23 years old and re-barrelled in 2005 into very old bourbon casks and then tanked for bottling, one cask at a time in April 2011.
Neil Mathieson (Managing Director of specialist drinks importers Eau de Vie) started laying down stocks of rum in the 1990, continually adding “suitable bulk fillings” over the years. The result is the Mezan Barrique XO and Mezan Single Cask rum range, all bottled without filtration, colouring or sweetening. Bottled under contract, these are released once or twice a year depending on sales and Neil’s stated ethos is to continue this, “offering completely natural rums with no further cask influence, through wood or wine finishing.”

Clear, pale straw golden.
Enticing, pungent estery nose with just mashed overripe banana, freshly baked crispy croissants, linseed oil and tropical fruit.
Light/medium bodied palate with muscovado sugar, banana crème brûlée and corn-like plastic notes (in a good way).
Long burnt sugar finish with light, slightly bitter oaky tannins.
