Column Distilled in 1991 at Trinidad’s now closed Caroni Distillery, aged in small oak casks and bottled in 2011.

Neil Mathieson (Managing Director of specialist drinks importers Eau de Vie) started laying down stocks of rum in the 1990, continually adding “suitable bulk fillings” over the years. The result is the Mezan Barrique XO and Mezan Single Cask rum range, all bottled without filtration, colouring or sweetening. Bottled under contract, these are released once or twice a year depending on sales and Neil’s stated ethos is to continue this, “offering completely natural rums with no further cask influence, through wood or wine finishing.”

Αξιολόγηση

Η γευσιγνωσία έγινε στις 17/09/2011

Όψη:

Clear, golden yellow.

Μύτη:

Tell-tale paint-like nose of a Triny rum but in case the oil paint has been well diluted with sweet smelling emulsion, aromatic thyme, butterscotch and fermenting fruit.

Στόμα:

Candied fruit, rubbery palate with burnt plastic and Caramac-like flavours and well-judged drying spicy oak and a hint of pine (strangely quite cognac-like).

Επίγευση:

Medium length, orange zest, varnish, plastic and spiced oak finish might sound bad but is actually quite appealing.
