Ron Cubay rums are made from fermented Cuban sugar cane molasses and distilled in a column still. Two different rums are made and then blended together after being separately aged, an 'aguardientes' which leaves the still at 75% alc./vol and a 'superfine' at 95.5% alc./vol..

The rums are aged for 3 years in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels which are re-charred on the island.

Ron Cubay was founded in 1964 at Santo Dominco in Villa Clara province in central Cuba and was only available domestically until 2010 when the first exports were shipped to Europe. The full range of Ron Cubay available in Cuba:
Carta Blanca – 3 year old
Carta Dorada – 4 year old (not exported)
Añejo Suave – 5 year old (not exported)
Añejo – 7 year old
Añejo Reserva Especial – 10 year old
