Celery and celery salt

Celery and celery salt image 1

Celery is a common cause of pollen-related food allergy, so in the UK, it is one of the 14 mandatory allergens to list and highlight on food labels in the UK and EU.

Most reactions are usually mild, with celery causing itching/tingling in the mouth, lips and throat. However, some may suffer more severe reactions ranging from itching and swelling to anaphylaxis requiring the administration of adrenaline.

Beware: Celery stalks, leaves, and roots (celeriac) may induce allergic reactions, as well as celery seeds and celery salt. Celery is also found in salads, some meat products, soups and stock cubes.
