Launched in 1992 as the "whisky for connoisseurs", this even more premium version of the already deluxe Johnnie Walker has a proportion of malts as old as 60 years in the blend. The square sided blue-green flint glass bottle is inspired by the original Johnnie Walker bottle.

The cork stopper has cord seal with a dangling medallion commemorating the brands establishment in 1820.

In 1820, John Walker, the son of an Ayrshire farmer, established the family grocer's business at the age of fifteen in Kilmarnock and began selling Scotch whisky. His son, Alexander, joined the business a year before his father died in 1857, and by the time his sons joined the business, it was no longer a grocers, but a firm of whisky merchants.

John Walker's grandsons patented the name Johnnie Walker in 1908 and launched a White Label, Special Red Label and Extra Special Black label whisky. The white was dropped, but the red and black in their easily recognisable square bottles with the 'striding dandy' became internationally successful blends.

Appearance:

(sample bot No. RA4 16042) Clear, golden with lighter bright golden yellow highlights.

Aroma:

Pungent, integrated slightly oily and lightly smoked. Ground cereal grains, dried coconut, old leather, hessian sack and freshly cut old mahogany wood.

Taste:

Initial burst of salty smoked seaweed leads to an elegant lightly honeyed malty, dried fruity palate with vanillered wood, liquorice, brazil nuts and the merest hint of cinnamon spice.

Aftertaste:

Salty, smoked flavours return on the long finish with boiled sweet (hard candy) fruit and buttered fruit buns.
