American whiskies termed 'small batch' are bottled from casks stored in one section of the warehouse, or even from an individual barrel. This category is still to be recognised in law and is a concept rather than a specific term where legislation can be enforced. This is not helped by the many different producers, who have not agreed, and probably never will agree, on a specific number of litres and casks to determine what constitutes 'small batch'.
