"Tiny Pillars" highlights the fate of rural hospitality venues and helps support an example of a community-run cafe bar in a previously abandoned space in the town of Hranice. As a community destination and through events, this cafe bar is breathing life back into the town.

Today, 55% of the world's population lives in urban areas; this number is expected to increase to 68% by 2050, with rural area population declining faster and faster, which can cause a loss of local culture, elderly loneliness rate increase and regional hospitality traditions disappearing.

Small towns and villages, like those in the Czech Republic, are the true heart of our cultural and hospitality heritage. However, these areas and the communities living there face significant challenges today. Life is speeding up rapidly, and society's urbanization is growing every year.

Young people are moving to larger cities, and local hospitality businesses, especially bars, pubs, and restaurants, are shutting down. As these places close their doors, the energetic community spirit that once proudly thrived is fading, leaving fewer opportunities for people to gather, share experiences, and connect.

But in the face of these challenges, there are inspiring examples of community resilience. In the town of Hranice, the local mayor, town employees, and residents have come together to run a community Kafebar in a previously abandoned space, all on their own initiative. This Kafebar not only serves drinks but also hosts events like flea markets and musical afternoons, breathing life back into the town.

The hospitality industry has always been about people. Having a place where stories can be told, love can be found, and friendships made is invaluable. To me, the people who make this happen are the real community heroes, and I would like to show the world this powerful example of community strength.

To support this incredible initiative, I've created a cocktail made from the local, seasonal produce of Hranice, which I am serving at the prestigious Grandhotel Pupp-the region's most iconic hospitality venue. Through our bar, I am spreading the word globally, discussing the issue, and challenging people around the world to look for initiatives like this in their own areas. Proceeds from this cocktail will help the community Kafebar keep its doors open. I will also host an event at their bar, encouraging fellow bartenders from other regions to do the same.

Together, we can make a difference. Many of us were born and raised in towns like these, and it's time to give back.

Let's support similar hospitality initiatives and highlight this global issue. We can keep the spirit of the small towns that shaped us alive, ensuring that in the future, these tiny pillars of community will be there.
