Be aware of allergens in cocktail ingredients and ask guests if they have any food allergies. While it may be obvious that a creamy Brandy Alexander contains...
you may want to include "MSG" and Bromelain.
Several people I know are intolerant of "MSG", including myself
Bromeline is an enzyme in Papayas, Pineapples and other tropical fruits....can cause the "Pina Coladas" or "Mai-Tais"....a laxative effect
Last week, I met someone who is allergic to grapefruit. The eventual solution will be to database all ingredients in items used, and then each user could enter and filter out the allergens they need to avoid. In the meantime, we'll stick to the 14 most recognised allergens. (This has been quite an undertaking to implement).
Another allergen to be aware of: beef and beef by-products. Think gelatin, dairy, etc. An increasing number of people are falling victim to "alpha gal", which is a tick-borne allergy.
Please also add chitonous insects and arachnids to your crustacean section. My recipe for the Corpse Reviver #2 is topped with toasted cricket bitters, for instance, from a company called Critter Bitters. I also occasionally work with scorpion-infused bitters and mezcal.
Thanks for bringing to my attention. I'll add, "Also, beware of shellfish-derived chitin/chitosan and that people with a crustacean allergy may also be allergic to arachnids (bugs and insects)."
