Just a naming nitpick: I've been all around Brazil and I've never seen "caipiroska" spelled with a v like "caipirovska", currently the title in this page. Maybe it's out there somewhere, but "caipiroska" and "caipivodka" dominate in my experience.

For per the drink itself, it's nice, but a caipirinha always wins out for me. Still, it's a good showcase for the muddling, the "dirty pour", and the texture heterogeneity you'll find in more humble traditional Brazilian cocktails, with the sugar and citrus kernels intentionally left in there.

I think this cocktail makes less sense here in Brazil than abroad, where one not having easy access to cachaça is likely. I can't cite anything, but I bet its popularity here has a lot to do with the stigma cachaça had in the previous century... I'd also say in my experience this is more popular with older people and snobbish folks (except for us cocktail snobs :) ) for the same reason.
