I've made with rye whisky to deliver that spicy punch but others specify Irish whiskey. However, coffee is the hero in this Old Fashioned so your choice...
Dark reddish brown, and clear (as you'd expect). Mr. Black and rye, w/ Ango orange. Wow - that's a lot of coffee flavor(!!) The notes of the rye come in later in the taste, but even then the coffee liqueur is the lead. I like this, and I like the Revolver (basically the same, but 4:1 whiskey:coffee liqueur) - I wonder how a 3:1 whiskey:coffee liqueur would work. This is perhaps a bit too much coffee liqueur for me. I put a splash of cream in (double cream using the vernacular of Difford's) - definite White Russian vibes (hmmm - maybe a new variant - a White Russian Refugee?)
