In 1785, Etienne Issaïe Marraud Desgrottes, a powerful landowner, purchased the Céron and Trois Rivières plantations on the Island of Martinique. The sugar mills gradually turned from production of processed sugar to juice for agricultural rum production and in 1994, Trois Rivières became part of the Group, Bellonnie Bourdillon et Successeurs, owners of La Mauny rums.
The name Trois Rivières refers to both the distillery and the 120 hectare sugarcane plantation bordered by three rivers, Bois d'Inde, Oman and St. Pierre.
