I only had unsweetened cranberry juice so I added 10-15ml of a homemade ginger syrup and increased the falernum about 10ml. I made it twice, once with Cointreau and once with Grand Marnier. In both I substituted gin for vodka because my wife and I prefer gin. I added orange bitters because I was also checking out the Messianic Cocktail recipe and thought it might work for this one as well.
The versions I made were really good and just slightly gingery, perfect for an almost-winter night.
My kids loved this drink. There was a little leftover after I divvied out their drinks so I added a mix of rums, lime juice, more pineapple juice, and falernum to drink the rest myself.
My wife called this one "dangerously delicious" and I agree. I made one with plain Bluecoat gin and one with Bluecoat's Elderflower gin (Elder Enzoni?). We found the regular Bluecoat to be better. I'm planning on making one with the Barrell-Aged Bluecoat and red grapes the next time we have red grapes.
A little too tart on the first few sips (mellowed as it sat) and I couldn't taste the bourbon. I would make this again and halve the lemon and orange juices.
