Substituted Cyanar with Fernet Branca (one of my absolutely favorite cocktail ingredients). It counters the sweetness well and everything plays well together. A new favorite - especially in the 3 (+bitters) ingredients category.

For me, the issue is that the elderflower overpowers everything, and the sweetness pushes it past my usual preference. That said, if you enjoy sweeter, floral, or “perfumey” cocktails, this might be right up your alley. With a little tweaking—maybe adding seltzer or using a brut prosecco—it could easily become a strong contender for a boozy brunch.
Bourbon whiskey, Rosso/sweet vermouth, Bénédictine D.O.M., Soda (club soda) water, Ginger beer
I have a soft spot for bitter cocktails—and Fernet is right at the top of my list. Archibald’s Last Memory doesn’t hold back: even with a hefty two ounces of rye (I swapped in Kentucky straight bourbon), the Fernet takes center stage. Pairing it with an equal measure of Benedictine adds a rich, herbal sweetness that leans medicinal—in the most delightful way. Complex, assertive, and unforgettable—just like the name suggests.
Amazing that this wonderful drink hasn't generated a single comment. I'm currently enjoying a highball comprising 60ml bottled-in-bond Mellow Corn straight corn whiskey, 75ml soda and a twist of lemon. Partner is having a brandy highball. C'mon, show this classic some respect!
I have literally been thinking of having a Highball all day. I "may" have two.
If "it is what it is" if it were a cocktail. I love Fernet - branca & menta - this is a great post dinner or pre-night out jolt.
